\nBeginning of Year Service<\/strong>
\nThe beginning of Year service will take place in St. Mary\u2019s on Wednesday, 8th October from 2.00 pm. All are welcome on the day. Considerable efforts are being made by pupils and staff to make the event as special as possible. The Service will be celebrated by school chaplain, Fr. Listoin.<\/p>\n

\nWe are delighted to inform you that pupils raised \u20ac315.61 this morning for Tr\u00f3caire by playing Trad sessions in the canteen for the school community. The sound of the very impressive range of instruments filled the corridors of the school and everybody was delighted with the wonderful entertainment of these talented students.<\/p>\n

\nOpen Night
\nThe school was packed on our Open Night, 22nd September. Over 390 pupils attended with their parents and each and everyone enjoyed the event. Our pupils and staff were exceptional in welcoming everybody. All helpers enjoyed cupcakes & MiWadi during the last class on Friday, 26th September as an acknowledgement of their great work on the night. There are over 40 brothers\/sisters for next year and the College is enrolling 87 pupils (three classes) in total.<\/p>\n

\nTransition Year Updates – National Ploughing Championships \u2013 Transition Year
\nOur TY pupils enjoyed a wonderful day learning about country-life and the importance and relevance of the agri-food sector on Wednesday, 24th September, when they attended the National Ploughing Championships in Laois.
\nPlease note: Transition Year Pupils will be attending a Team Building Day at Derg Isle Activity Centre, Scariff, Co Clare on October 1st and will not return to the school until 17.00

\nParents Information Night – First Year
\nA Parents Information Night will take place on Monday, 19.30 in the school. Topics to be discussed on the night include settling into school, making the transition to Post-Primary, Homework, the Code of Behaviour, lockers, assessment and option subjects for Junior Certificate.
\nParents will receive a comprehensive Handbook on the night. The Year Head, Guidance Counsellor and Deputy Principal will make presentations on the evening.<\/p>\n

\nFirst Year Annual Surf-Trip to Lehinch
\nThe First Year pupils headed off to Lehinch for the annual surfing trip on Thursday, 24th September. This is an excellent opportunity for pupils to meet new friends and promote team-building amongst the year-group. It is also a timely break from academics and the all the busy workload of First Year. \nWe are delighted to inform you that an expert in the area of bullying, Mr. Pat Courtney will be coming to Gaelchol\u00e1iste Luimnigh on Wednesday, 1st October to engage with the School Community on the issue of Bullying and its prevention. Pat Courtney is a renowned speaker in the area of bullying, having served as Anti-Bullying Coordinator of the SPHE Support Service (2009-2014). He was Team Leader of the Department of Education pilot anti-bullying programme for second level schools-The Dublin Cool School Pilot Programme (2006-2009). \nThe annual Table Quiz, which is one of the highlights of the year on our social calendar and always such a success takes place in the Strand Hotel on 9th October. Our Parents Council has been very busy organising this event and it continues to go from strength to strength. Last year, over 350 attended. The College is extremely grateful to its Parents Council for organising this social night. It gives parents a great opportunity to meet in a beautiful venue and enjoy each other\u2019s company.
