Today I took the six GCL students to the town of Luven to visit the famous Irish College that was established there in 1607 (the same year as The Flight of the Earls). It’s also where Patrick Sarsfield arrived after negotiating the Treaty of Limerick, which was quite relevant to our Limerick group! He is buried in Luy, Belgium. <\/p>\n

Through my contacts in Brussels I was able to organise a meet & greet with the Operations Manager, Christina Geary. She brought us on a tour, was excellent with our students and gave me her card for contact in the future. It’s not a college anymore she said, nowadays it’s an institute which caters for many groups such as businesses, schools & politicians. Apparently a significant amount of the secret peace talks re The Good Friday Agreement happened there, which was very interesting to our students. Accommodation & food is available there for the visiting groups.<\/p>\n

Irish Transition Year groups stay there, business & political party think-ins are organised there. There was a group from Deloitte in residence today for a think-in. <\/p>\n
