Student Life at Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh is an enriching and holistic one. Students are encouraged to participate fully in both curricular and extra-curricular activities. They are given the opportunity to choose from a wide variety of Subject Choices, with the current Fifth Year curriculum being one of the broadest on offer. First Year students engage in a period of Subject Sampling for a period of five weeks at the beginning of their First Year at Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh, enabling them to make an informed decision as to the subjects they wish to pursue for Junior Certificate. Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh students are afforded the opportunity to pursue both French AND Spanish for both Junior and Leaving Certificate exams and as a result of this linguistic profficiency, many of our past pupils have proceeded to study Languages at Third Level.
Our students benfit from small class sizes and a unique relationship with their teachers. Staff take a genuine personal interest in their students progression and the benefit of this is clear to see.
Outside of the classroom, there is a wide variety of extra curricular activities for our students to choose from. We firmly believe that, for children to flourish and achieve their goals, the focus needs to be broader than the academic alone. With this in mind, all of our students are encouraged to participate in at least one Extra curricular activity, throughout their six years at GCL. They can choose between : hockey, hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, rugby, basketball, soccer, golf, horse riding, athletics, rowing. For those, whose talents lie in other areas, our teachers offer both lunchtime and after school clubs in Drama, debating, public speaking, choir, traditional Irish music club, Science club, maths club, chess, Green Schools Committee, Student Council, Creative Writing and a Spanish club.
Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh students benefit from a positive, non-judgemental learning environment, where they are encouraged to strive to reach their potential and congratulated when they do. They are nurtured both academically and pastorally. Each student is equally important to us and we are equally proud of the student who achieves 600+ points as we are of those who fulfill their potential and achieve their goals.
