Cathaoirleach an Bhoird Bainistíochta, Maria Byrne

Maria Byrne was elected to Limerick City Council in 1999 and served until 2014 when she was elected to represent Limerick City West on the newly amalgamated Limerick City and County Council.

She was a member of the City of Limerick Vocational Education Committee for fourteen years and chaired its Audit Committee and Youthreach Committee for a period of ten years. She represented the VEC, and latterly the ETB on the Board of Management of Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh for the last ten years. She was instrumental as a Board Member in helping to support the development of this thriving new school.

She was recently appointed to the Board of Management of the Limerick College of Further Education, its first Board of Management. She has also been a VEC/ETB representative on the Governing Body of Limerick Institute of Technology for the past 8 years.

She regards her membership of the Development Committee of St. Gabriel’s School and Centre, Dooradoyle, Limerick for the past fourteen years as a deeply and profoundly rewarding experience.

She is committed to the ethos of lifelong learning, and led by example in this philosophy by obtaining a Certificate and Diploma e in Local Government Studies accredited by Dublin City University through workshops, distance learning and home study.

He has set an example for us all”
