Symbolism of the Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh Crest
The Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh crest is instantly recognisable, positive, clear, modern and progressive. The crest is in the shape of a shield with four distinct quadrants converging at a crossing point. This crossing point symbolises Limerick city in the past, present and future, as a meeting point for the exchange of learning experiences, skills, ideas, life experiences, goods and services. The crossing point is also a symbol of diverse and different backgrounds converging at a cross-point, Gaelcholáiste Luimnnigh. Looking at a map of Limerick city one can also observe crossing points such as that represented on our crest.
The large quadrant of blue represents the mighty Shannon Estuary, and its influence on the city. Indeed, both Green and Blue occupy greater significance on the shield’s area. Blue also distinguishes the EU, education, quality and integrity. Green signifies Ireland, our working language – An Ghaeilge, growth and stability.
Red signifies passion for the language, optimism and positivity, characteristics that compliment positive learning outcomes for the Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh community. It also stands for leadership and high-energy.
Black represents constancy and sophistication.
White in the cross represents perfection, good and fair judgement.
“Ag Forbairt le Chéile” means “Developing Together” and is an appropriate slogan for Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh as it regognises that the entire college community are developing. Through this development comes the strive for excellence.
The typeface used has a clarity and modernism that complements the logo.
